Wenzhou Middle School Gymnasium, located within the historic Wenzhou Middle School in Zhejiang Province, has undergone a remarkable renovation to become a versatile sports and cultural venue covering an area of 2,380 square meters. Designed to accommodate sports competitions, conferences, and artistic performances, the gymnasium embraces a modern minimalist aesthetic, with the classic primary colors of red, yellow, and blue complemented by white and gray to reflect the school's profound cultural heritage.
During the construction process, careful attention was given to the gymnasium's acoustic design. Several acoustic challenges were identified in the original design, including the rectangular shape of the competition hall and pool, which resulted in sound reflections and vibrations, adversely affecting the sound quality for the audience and athletes. Additionally, the steel structure of the ceiling caused multiple sound reflections, leading to uneven sound distribution throughout the hall. To address energy-saving needs, numerous skylights and ventilation windows were incorporated into the walls and audience seating area, reducing the available surface area for acoustic treatment and posing additional acoustic challenges.
To tackle these issues, an effective solution was chosen for the gymnasium's competition pool area. High-quality groove wooden sound-absorbing panels were installed on the surrounding walls. These panels offer excellent resistance to dirt and impact, and after installation, they successfully eliminated noise such as footsteps and ball impacts. By absorbing excess sound energy, these specially designed groove wooden panels significantly reduced reverberation time and eliminated unwanted echoes in the hall.
The groove wooden sound-absorbing panels are a type of slit-resonance sound-absorbing material with perforations on the backside of the dense board. Employing a multi-pore absorption design, these panels efficiently convert sound wave energy into heat, effectively achieving superior sound absorption performance.
The gymnasium hosts various sports facilities, including basketball courts, badminton courts, and table tennis rooms, as well as medical rooms, dressing rooms, rest areas, and corridors. After undergoing professional acoustic treatment, the gymnasium's reverberation time was successfully reduced to an optimal 1.5 seconds, ensuring exceptional sound quality and acoustic comfort for athletes, spectators, and performers alike.
With the seamless integration of advanced acoustic solutions, the transformed Wenzhou Middle School Gymnasium now stands as a shining example of how acoustic design can significantly enhance the auditory experience within sports and cultural venues, offering a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity for all who visit.
