Jiangmen Guangya School, situated in Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, China, is a premium educational institution providing high-quality educational resources for kindergartens, primary schools, middle schools, and international education. The school aims to create a diverse campus culture that is high-end, high-quality, and comprehensive to enhance the quality of education and establish a benchmark for high-end private education.
Guangya Middle School is planning to construct a multi-functional comprehensive indoor gymnasium with a construction area of over 2,000 square meters. The gymnasium integrates various functions such as sports, performances, entertainment, and fitness and is equipped with 2 standard basketball courts and a large stage for conferences and entertainment performances. The acoustic design aimed at achieving a mid-frequency reverberation time of 1.5 ± 0.1 seconds for the entire venue, based on the functional positioning.
In light of the large space and multi-window lighting of sports venues, the acoustic design primarily focused on enhancing sound absorption treatment on the existing ceiling grid structure. The use of space sound-absorbing materials with ultra-high sound absorption coefficients helped to effectively control the reverberation time, thereby reducing the load-bearing of the original ceiling grid.
Through scientific and rigorous construction and installation technology, the construction team successfully delivered the design effect as the completed effect. The acoustic acceptance test revealed a mid-frequency reverberation time of RT=1.53 seconds, meeting the design requirements. The teachers and students highly appreciated the completed project, which fulfilled the school's needs and created optimal conditions for sports, performances, and other events.
