Situated in Xiamen, Fujian, our recent acoustic endeavor involved a state-of-the-art recording and performance studio, covering an area of 130 square meters and consisting of a control room and a recording booth. Initially, the space was grappling with issues related to reverberation, background noise, and sound leakage, making it less than ideal for both music and voice recording purposes. With a ceiling height of roughly 2.5 meters, the studio demanded a professional acoustic design approach to ensure superior sound quality and balance.
Our design goals were straightforward: to achieve consistent reverberation times, eliminate frequency response anomalies, ensure an even distribution of sound energy across the entire space, and address concerns such as flutter echoes, sound focusing, and standing waves.
The acoustic hurdles were complex and multi-layered. The existing single-layer walls were found to be inadequate in terms of sound insulation and were susceptible to sound leakage. Noise from external sources like traffic and the general hustle of the city seeped into the studio, while internal noise from student conversations and the operation of equipment also degraded the recording quality. Moreover, the confined nature of the studio amplified the problems of flutter and multiple echoes between the ceiling, floor, and walls, leading to extended reverberation times and unclear sound reproduction.
The presence of parallel walls within the studio also posed the risk of sound coloration and the formation of standing waves, further emphasizing the need for meticulous acoustic treatment and sound quality enhancement.
Through our thorough acoustic intervention, we tackled these challenges directly and effectively. Our strategies included targeted soundproofing to counteract external and internal noise, specialized acoustic treatments to reduce flutter and echoes, and careful adjustments to the room's dimensions to prevent sound coloration and standing wave problems.
The outcome? A revitalized recording and performance venue with exceptional acoustics, impeccable sound clarity, and unmatched precision. Our project not only met but surpassed the client's expectations, equipping them with a studio that fosters creativity and supports high-caliber audio production.
By integrating advanced audio technologies such as line array speakers and pro audio systems, we further enhanced the studio's capabilities, ensuring that it can accommodate a wide range of recording and performance needs.
