Our team tackled a unique challenge at the Hefei Ping School Gymnasium, a facility serving multiple purposes, including sports events and cultural activities. With a volume of approximately 7810m³, an area of 2965m², and a height of 8m, this small-sized sports venue required an acoustic makeover to meet its diverse needs.
Acoustic Challenges Addressed:
Echo and Reverberation: The generous volume of 12m³ per seat in this rectangular-shaped venue posed an echo and reverberation threat. Without acoustic treatment, sound clarity would have been compromised.
Parallel Surfaces: The gym's architecture created parallel surfaces that could trigger flutter echoes, leading to noticeable audio interference and disrupting sound system performance.
Limited Ventilation: With few open windows and vents, sound had nowhere to escape, and the high glass surface area further exacerbated sound reflections, creating severe echo issues during events and conferences.
Structural Considerations: The steel structure roof required acoustic materials that could handle the load.
Solutions Implemented:
Ceiling Treatment: To counteract flutter echoes, we strategically placed broad-spectrum sound-absorbing materials beneath the steel structure. This prevented sound from bouncing around and negatively impacting audio equipment.
Wall Curtains: As windows covered significant portions of the walls, we installed high-efficiency curtains over them to act as acoustic treatments, reducing sound reflections and improving sound quality.
