Located in Anshan, Liaoning Province, the Xiu Yan County Sports Arena covers an expansive 79,200 square meters with a total built-up area of 11,300 square meters. Shaped like a rectangle, it can accommodate up to 3,000 spectators. Primarily designed for sports events, it also serves as a versatile space for sports entertainment, conferences, and more. It stands as a vital venue for sports events and community cultural activities in Xiu Yan County.
In a sports arena, pristine sound quality is imperative, ensuring clear communication and a conducive environment for various activities. The strategic placement of acoustic materials is the most effective means to enhance acoustic quality, harmoniously merging architectural acoustics with interior design, striking a balance between aesthetics and practicality.
This project introduces acoustic considerations into the design process, basing decisions on sound principles. Rigorous calculations determine the selection, layout, and installation of acoustic decorative materials, controlling the reverberation time within the arena. This scientific approach provides a sound foundation for spatial design and construction processes.
Ceiling Solution: The arena's requirements for use and audience comfort dictate a substantial minimum net height. This results in a larger volume and extended reverberation time within the space. To save on suspended ceiling costs and reduce structural loads, an exposed grid framework is commonly employed. However, without a comprehensive suspended ceiling, low- and mid-frequency absorption is compromised, necessitating more acoustic materials for equivalent reverberation control. Therefore, the acoustic treatment for the ceiling primarily utilizes highly efficient absorptive materials. The design proposes the installation of sound-absorbing baffles, suspended 1 meter below the steel framework, covering an area of 1800 square meters.
Wall Solution: Given the large volume of the sports arena and the possibility of partial audience absence during events, the proportion of the audience's acoustic absorption is relatively small. To manage the arena's reverberation time, a significant amount of absorptive material or structural modifications is required. Additionally, due to factors such as raised seating and large windowed wall areas, the available wall surfaces for acoustic treatment are limited. Therefore, it is crucial to optimize the utilization of walls for sound absorption. The design suggests using slotted aluminum acoustic structures on the walls, covering an area of 4000 square meters, filled with sound-absorbing cotton with a minimum thickness of 50 mm, and a cavity depth of at least 100 mm.
Xiu Yan County Sports Arena stands as a testament to the integration of architectural aesthetics and acoustic performance, ensuring a captivating and sonically delightful experience for spectators, athletes, and event organizers alike.
